PRESERVATION HALL FOUNDATION
Dates: April 2018 - Current
Project: The Preservation Hall Foundation was launched in 2011 to "protect, preserve and perpetuate" the musical traditions of New Orleans. Through musical education programs, outreach, live performances, multimedia projects, collaborations and more, the Preservation Hall Foundation creates greater awareness and appreciation for New Orleans music and the communities that support it.
Flux assisted PHF with leveraging their existing tools and assets to build an assessment plan for key components of two programs: Kids in the Hall and the National New Orleans Music Curriculum. Our goals were:
1. review and improve current data collection instruments to be applied during Kids in the Hall and pilot new data collection instruments with a sample of Kids in the Hall participants,
2. analyze data collected to inform answers to key questions PHF has about Kids in the Hall programming
3. co-create funder report with PHF staff. Flux seeks to have the first phase produce tangible, useful results for several stakeholders (PHF staff, funders, and program partners).
Our initial collaboration evolved into a long-term, multi-year commitment to developing a full set of theories of change for all foundation programs accompanied by evaluation questions and an evaluation plan. As PHF staff implemented the plan, Flux provided as-needed support with design, data collection, data analysis, and capacity building.
